What exactly is addiction? Does it only apply to substance abuse, or does it overlap with behavioral processes like overeating, compulsive spending, or obsessively watching pornography? Can someone become addicted to an idea? To a feeling? To another person?
I believe the answer is yes, and I believe all addictions can be treated in the same way. If you have found yourself engaged in any pattern of behavior that's causing a problem, but no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to change - I might be the right therapist for you.
The road to recovery is frequently blocked by shame. My first priority is creating a safe enough space for you to talk to me without fear of judgment. I have an integrative approach to therapy that is tailored to your unique needs and goals and includes somatic grounding, meditation, and mindfulness training along with traditional therapeutic modalities like psychodynamics, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
It's important to understand that there's no such thing as "dysfunctional” behavior; on a primal level, all behavior functions to help us survive. If you are seeking an experienced and supportive therapist to help you make sense of maladaptive habits and develop healthy coping skills to improve your life, I invite you to please reach out! Together, let us work towards helping you learn to thrive.
